Love and Berry: Dress Up and Dance arcade manual

Originally started off with two modes during the Japanese arcade version of 2004 Autumn-Winter Collection and 2006 Spring-Summer Collection, it was later increased up to six from the following versions. As of the Finale Collection, a total of seven game modes are available.

Available Modes

Super Easy

Ac gamesel bg full easy bg eng

"This mode is for beginners. You can choose any stage. You have plenty of time to get dressed, so you can relax and mix and match outfits at your leisure. (You can play on up to 2 stages!)"

One of the main difficulties when it comes to solo play, and recommended for beginners. In this mode, tambourine hits are less stricter compared to the other two difficulties. It was a one-hit sequence before being revised in the later versions, where the selected character you play as will guide you through the steps. You can play up to 2 stages if you do well. This mode is equivalent to the Easy mode in the early Japanese version.

Recommended Easy

"This mode is for intermediate players. If you push the buttons in Bonus Time well, you might get a Special Bonus. (You can play on up to 3 stages!)"

One of the main difficulties when it comes to solo play, and recommended for intermediate players. Unlike both Super Easy and Kind Of Hard (later Supreme Easy), this mode's tambourine portion and strictness is on par with both said modes. You can play up to the three stages if you do well.

Super Hard/Kind Of Hard/Supreme Easy

"This mode is for advanced players. If you're confident in your abilities, take the challenge! (You can play on up to 4 stages!)"

One of the main difficulties when it comes to solo play, and recommended for advanced players. This mode is more on the strict level, which you can earn a Pajama Miss if you fail to time with the beat. You can play up to four stages if you do well. This mode is equivalent to the Hard mode in the early Japanese version, renamed as Super Hard in the 2005 Autumn-Winter version, and Kind Of Hard in 2006 Autumn-Winter version, to finally Supreme Easy (はりきりかんたん) in the 2007 Autumn-Winter version.

Dress Up Research

Ac gamesel bg full research bg eng

"This mode lets you check your outfits. You can even change your character and Lucky Color while you're playing! Unfortunately, you can't dance in this mode."

Firstly introduced in the 2005 Autumn-Winter version, this mode allows you to try out possible combinations with different cards by changing your character, and the Lucky Color! However, you cannot dance in this mode. It was later improvised in the later versions, adding an additional scene featuring the character walking to the stage and striking a pose. It was temporarily removed in the 2007 Autumn-Winter version, before returning back in the 2008 version.

Along With Doggy

Mode09
"You can enjoy dancing with a doggy in this mode! Of course, Love and Berry will also cheer you on! (You can play on up to 2 stages!)"

Introduced in the 2007 Autumn-Winter version, this mode allows you to scan cards from a kids game Together with Doggy (いっしょにワンワン isshoni wanwan) to have a dog dancing along with Love and Berry. This game mode is only available in the Japanese arcade releases.

2-Player Cooperation

"This mode is for two to play and cooperate in! Try getting a lot of practice! (You can play on up to 2 stages!)"

Introduced in the 2008 version, it's a fusion between Easy For Two and Hard For Two modes. Similar to Easy For Two, you get to play up to two stages.

2-Player Competition

Vs ver1

"If you're playing with a friend, this is the mode you want! The alternating Bonus Times are your big chance. Compete in fashion and dance! (You can play on 2 stages!)"

Introduced in the 2005 Autumn-Winter version, the mode will have you and a friend to compete. Its strictness is on par with the hard difficulty. It was removed in the 2007 Spring-Summer version before returning back in the 2008 arcade version. You and a friend get to play up to two stages (one stage in the 2005 Autumn-Winter/1st-2nd Collection version). Although physically absent in the 3rd-5th Collection version, an unused sound file related to this mode reveals a new title change: 2-Player Versus Battle.

Removed Modes

Story

"The mode to play all by yourself. You can play more if you do well!"

Mode storypanel

The sequence of how the story mode is going to be played out.

Unlike the first three difficulty modes shown from the beginning, this features a selection screen of both Easy and Hard mode. It should be noted that the stages are randomly selected (but in a fixed sequencing) in the first Japanese arcade version. The Disco stage isn't available in this mode, but the Special Stage is, in the presence of the Ball (hard mode only). (The order of stages: Street Court/Fashion Street -> Idol Stage/Seaside Stage -> "Special Stage" Ball)

Versus Battle

"The mode to play with two people. Compete in two stages and see who wins or loses!"

Of what it is to be called the first version of 2-Player Competition, it was introduced in the 2004 Autumn-Winter version along with Easy and Hard difficulty. Not much known about this mode, but when Versus Battle is chosen, you get to pick one of the three types: Idol Battle (Seaside Stage and Idol Stage), Street Battle (Street Court and Fashion Street), and Special Battle (Ball).

Contest Practice

Contest ver1

"This mode is for practicing for the official Dress Up Contest. Give it a try and go for the top prize! (You can play on 2 stages!)"

This mode was introduced in the 2005 Autumn-Winter version, which allows you to pick a song. Its strictness is on par with the hard difficulty. The main difference between the other modes is the results, where if you lose, you can continue picking a song. Although physically absent in the 3rd-5th Collection version, an unused sound file related to this mode reveals a new title change: Tournament Practice.

Easy For Two

Ac gamesel bg full coopeasy bg eng

"This mode is for two first-timers to play and cooperate in! Try getting a lot of practice! (You can play on up to two stages!)"

Introduced in the 2007 Spring-Summer version along with Hard For Two, you and a friend will co-op to reach the goal's target. You can play up to the two stages if you do well. In the 2008 arcade version, it was removed along with Hard for Two to make way for the new mode: 2-Player Cooperation. In the Japanese releases, the lyrics are colored for Love and Berry.

Hard For Two

Ac gamesel bg full coophard bg eng

"This mode is for you if you can do well in Easy For Two. Clear points will be much higher, so give it a go and do your best! (You can play on up to three stages!)"

Introduced in the 2007 Spring-Summer version along with Easy For Two, you and a friend will co-op to reach the goal's target. Unlike Easy For Two, this mode is much stricter. Should one of the player misses, they will get a Pajama Miss but if both, they get a entirely different outfit with a -100 Dress Up Power reduction temporarily. You can play up to the three stages if you do well. In the 2008 arcade version, it was removed along with Hard for Two to make way for the new mode: 2-Player Cooperation. In the Japanese releases, the lyrics are colored for Love and Berry.
